Sew a Little Seam is such a great pattern company. I love how all their patterns include so many different options–it’s such a great value! The Mairin Swimsuit pattern is basically the only swim pattern you’ll need because it includes so many options.
This is my second Mairin for my daughter, as she outgrew the last one I made her. I still had some of the same watermelon swim fabric leftover and she was so happy to have another swimsuit made from it!
For this version, I made the narrow strap, ruffle scoop back tankini with midrise bikini bottoms. I love the ease of making one-piece suits but they are such a pain come potty time so I always opt for two-pieces.
I admit I was a little nervous about making this again since the last one I made broke my sewing machine and I had to buy a new one! This one went much smoother but I still had problems. It’s almost like the sewing machine could sense my fear–ha!
While I love my Eversewn machine, they are known for bobbin problems. When sewing at higher speeds, the bobbin will sometimes jump out of the case. This time the bobbin wasn’t jumping out, but the thread was randomly nesting. I tried all the usual fixes but nothing seemed to work. I was given a bobbin replacement part by the company but lost it during our move. Hopefully I’ll find it soon and that will fix it! Due to this, my stitching isn’t as clean as I’d like as I had to stop and start many times.
I managed to finish without breaking my machine and both my daughter and I are happy with how it turned out! I made it a size bigger so my daughter will be able to wear it longer. I’d like to make myself a swim top with the watermelon fabric so we can match at the beach this summer!
