I’m working my way through my unfinished pile as part of my 2020 goals and this shirt has been sitting half finished for almost a year and half! The sleeve detail and split hem were was originally drew me to the pattern and I was excited to finally finish it so I can wear it.

I choose view B in either a straight small or a small graded to medium at the waist. It’s been so long I can’t remember! I used double brushed polyester for both the main fabric and the shoulder contrast.
I’m not sure why I put this project down a year and half ago but it was quick to finish. The only changes I made were to shorten the neck back by about an inch and I also took the sleeves in inch since I prefer close fitting sleeves.

I’d been having trouble with my coverstitch skipping stitches for the past few projects and decided I needed to figure it out before completing this shirt. I took my machine to the local sewing machine shop and was told a simple solution: I need to use better quality thread! I had been using Maxi-Lock and a combination of other brands and all resulted in skipped stitches. We tried Maderia in the shop and it worked like dream! I also tried Gutermann thread a home and found it works well too. I am so glad I finally figured out the issue and that it was such a simple fix! I used the coverstitch on the neckband and all the hems and I’m thrilled with how they look!

I love using wash away tape to keep hems in place while sewing and used a new brand this time. Despite it being listed as wash away, it does NOT. I am so disappointed and will be returning it to Amazon. My favorite brand is Hotop from Amazon (affiliate link) and I’ll be ordering more of that.

I’m not quite sure I love the white contrast on the sleeves and would probably make it without them if I made it again. I do love the sleeve length and the curved split hem. It’s a great shirt for spring and is a good raglan pattern for basic shirts in your wardrobe. I found it was a looser fitting shirt, so size down if you want it more fitted.
So what are your thoughts on the white sleeve contrast? Yay or nay? I’m not quite sure about them yet!
