The November box had an extra special feature as you could pick ANY pattern from New Horizons Designs. I had a difficult time deciding which pattern to choose and finally narrowed it down to 3 patterns. I ended up choosing the Knoxville Top as I love knotted tees and had been wanting a cowl neck version for fall.

The fabric for the project was a grey floral french terry. It’s a very soft fabric and would have worked well for the other patterns I wanted–the joggers and a hoodie. The pattern was a beginner-friendly sew and I was able to sew it up in an afternoon. This was my first pattern from New Horizons and I found the instructions very easy to follow with detailed photos of each step. I did have difficulty, at first, when sewing the knot because I just couldn’t understand the instructions–despite the clear instructions. I finally had an ah-ha! moment and it went together way easier than I was trying to make it! I love the fit of this top and plan on making some short sleeved tees to update the basic ones in my wardrobe.

The mini project was the Dew Zipper Pouch by Alexandra Bordallo. Three fabrics from the Dew collection were included to make it. I’ve never done any sort of quilting before and was excited to try making this pouch! A pair of cute scissor charms were included in the box and I added one as a zipper pull, although supplies to make them into earrings were also included.

As you can see in the photos, I need a little more (okay–a lot more) pratice at quilting. The lines aren’t straight or even and I’m not sure if it’s due to my sewing or if I cut the fabric wrong. It’s probably a combination of both—ha! I had fun making it and decided to do one side with straight lines and the other diagonial, just for fun! I like how the pouch turned out, despite my lack of skills, and am using it to store my pattern weights.

I loved the flexibility of choosing my own pattern in this box as well as getting to try my hand at something close to quilting for a change. The December box ships out soon, so be sure to grab it while it’s still available! A subscription also makes a great Christmas gift–in fact, it’s what my husband gifted me last year!
Now for a sneak peak of the December pattern……

The Ficus Cardigan from Sew Like My Mom is the featured pattern for December. The box includes 2 yards of either a golden yellow floral or gray sparkle sweather knit.
I made this cardigan as a Christmas gift for a friend because I think she looks fabulous in this color, which is also why this cardigan doesn’t fit me quite right (she doesn’t have short arms like me!).

I love the peplum and haven’t seen many cardigan patterns featuring one. I did find the arms to be a little big, so I would take them in next time. This pattern would be fun to sew with different weight fabric to have either a more drapey or structured look.
I have really loved all the boxes I’ve received this year. It’s been fun to sew patterns and fabric I wouldn’t normally choose. It’s also fun receiving mail that fuels my creativity and helps me expand my sewing skills. Have you tried a Sewciety box yet?
