I had this super cute beach coverup I bought from Amazon last year, but sadly it ripped. I decided it was time to try sewing one for myself but didn’t want to spend a lot on fabric. Luckily, I found this cute shower curtain in the clearance section of Target and thought the print would be perfect for a beach coverup!

I found a free beach coverup pattern from Peppermint Magazine and loved how simple this pattern was to sew. I had no trouble printing the pattern, even though it’s sized for A4 paper. It is a larger/looser fitting coverup, so it uses A LOT of pages to print but came together easily. French seams are used throughout the pattern and I really enjoy the clean finish it gives the completely garment.

I had a hard time finding the right color of pom pom trim to match the fabric and ultimately found the best selection and price to be on Amazon. I ordered a few colors to see which would work best. The trim is easy to sew on but does stretch a little as you sew. If you use tassels or larger pom poms, you may find it easier to sew the trim on with a zipper foot.

While I love the print of the fabric, it may not have been the best choice. The pattern works best with light weight wovens and the curtain fabric is medium weight. I’m not unhappy with how it turned out but I do wish it had better drape. Also, the way it ties with the dolman sleeves can cause it to be a little restrictive in moving the arms. I’m not sure it would be very practical to use while chasing my kids at the pool since I would have to readjust the arms and tie to raise my arms up. Perhaps using a lighter weight fabric or one with a little stretch would solve this issue.

You can find the pattern here, let me know if you make it! Come show it off in my Facebook group or tag me on Instagram.
