I was so excited to receive my second Sewciety box! I love having a surprise project coming in the mail each month–so much better than the junk mail or bills I normally receive!
This month’s box contained a lot of goodies along with a main project and a mini project. The main project was the Sydney Sweater by Annelaine with 2.25 yards of Art Gallery cotton spandex. While I love the ease of sewing with cotton spandex, I wasn’t in love with the plaid colors when I first saw them. I was excited to see how it turned out and if I liked the fabric better after it was sewn.

The mini project was an infinity scarf pattern by Villa Rosa Designs with 1 yard of a super soft hacci sweater knit. The color matches really well the plaid so they can be worn together.

The box also came with a cute little sewing tin, thread peel, bobbin buddy, matching thread, 1.5 yards of pattern tracing material, and 2 fat quarters of super cute Art Gallery cotton. My daughter has already claimed the fat quarters for herself, although I’m not sure what to make with it.
The pattern was quick to sew with only 3 pieces: front, back, and neckband. I really liked that a neckband patterns piece was included instead of just the measurements. A lot of designers just give band measurements but I’m not one of those people who can just measure out and then cut for the neckband. It’s much easier for me to make an actual pattern piece to cut from! The neckband piece even included markings for the should seams to help with lining it up–so useful for beginners!

The fabric was really nice to sew with but I felt cotton lycra made the shirt more boxy on me than I prefer. I think something with more drape, such as french terry or even a rayon spandex, would be better. Overall, I like the high low of the shirt and love that it covers my bottom so I can wear it with leggings. I still don’t love the fabric colors, perhaps it’s that it don’t go well with my skin tone. My best friend liked it so I gave it to her!
The scarf was a quick and easy sew and it matched the shirt nicely. The fabric did roll quite a lot but I love how soft and cuddly it is around my neck!
Don’t forget to check out my review of the December box here.
If you have any ideas of what I can make my daughter with the 2 fat quarters, let me know!
